Following their recent SXSW showcase and ahead of their UK live dates next month, including two planned performances at The Great Escape, Tokyo’s alternative indie-rock band Helsinki Lambda Club share the Swim Deep slowcore remix of their indie dancefloor hit ‘Good News Is Bad News.’
‘Good News Is Bad News’ (Swim Deep ‘Slowcore’ Remix) is officially released on Helsinki Lambda Club’s Spotify here (plus other digital streaming platforms) this Friday 17 April but Helsinki Lambda Club give fans an early sneak preview by sharing it today via Soundcloud only LISTEN HERE.
Austin Williams (of Swim Deep) says of the remix:
“When I heard this great band from Japan, one of our favourite countries in terms of music/passion/movies and art, I jumped at the idea. The song was already an indie dancefloor hit and I wanted to do it justice, so I took it in a totally opposite direction and slowed it down by half, drawing inspiration from my favourite slowcore artists like Low and Galaxie 500, and took the beautiful melodies of Helsinki Lambda Club’s ‘Good News Is Bad News’ and made them stoned in an eternal dream.”
Helsinki Lambda Club is a trio led by vocalist Kaoru Hashimoto (on vocals/guitar) - alongside Taiki Kumagai (guitar) and Kodai Inaba (bass) - whose musical roots range from 70's rock through to modern indie-pop, resulting in a sound that encompasses the attitude of garage punk, as well as the spirit of new wave and psychedelic. With highly addictive melodies, playful lyrics and experimental soundscapes that can morph from sunny surf rock into full on psychedelia from track to track, their music transcends borders of genre and culture.
Formed in 2013 in Tokyo, Japan, Helsinki Lambda Club have graced stages in Hong Kong, China, and Taiwan (SHOUTOUT ’19 FESTIVAL), and played huge festivals both at home and internationally such as FUJI ROCK (2022), and this year’s SXSW. Their music has amassed over 40 million streams. Their current album ‘Welcome to Helsinki Lambda Club,’ from which ‘Good News Is Bad News’ is taken, is out now via FRIENDSHIP and available to stream on Spotify.
